September Beacon

The summer is flying by but there’s still a lot to do at North Channel. Hello September! Before I speak on the upcoming events, let me take a minute and thank Dianne Corcoran, Norma Frame and Cathy Jarvis for organizing and hosting this years’ Field Games. The participation was a little weak but those competing, including myself, had a great time. If you ever get the chance to play bean bags with Terry Shemke, Look out. He’s a ringer! Too much fun. Our second rendezvous was held at Metro Beach and once again the

fleet followed. Another great turnout for a fabulous weekend. The stick- horse games were a great success, thanks to Don and Rana Shepperson and there was an abundance of ice passed around by our very own Fleet Captain. Thanks Greg. If anyone would like to reserve Metro Beach in the future, just ask Greg and Yvonne Murray their opinion of the experience. A few hurdles and road blocks presented themselves but our Fleet Captains persevered! Hooray! The dinghy poker run was another great success due to several people. Thanks Jeff and Darla for your talents and organizational skills. On August 10 th , fifteen people joined Barb and me on our Commodore’s Cruise to Alaska. I must admit I have never seen such beauty in all of my past travels. Our group included PC Scott and Kathy Bell, Ron and Jeannine Kemp, Diane French, Steve and Diane Marten, Randy and Linda Pagel, Debbie Siwek, traveling with her friend from Canada, Denise, Dave and Kathy Gronbach with Dave’s sister Sue and Kathy’s sister, Pat. Steve and Diane win the prize for the most excursions taken and Kathy Bell was nominated “Trip Photographer” for her keen eye and swift shutter! A fun time was had by all. Early in August we were visited by the Cleveland Yacht Club with approximately thirty yachts. PC Ardo and Charlene Apigian were our week managers and they put a call out for some help to assist them with taking care of our guests. PC Ardo asked me to thank all of you that came out and gave up your time to ensure Cleveland Yacht Club received the warm welcome each and everyone of you gave them. Dave and Cindy McKnight,
