5. Tests on various effects of hydrogen; the influence on the fatigue strength and the impact strength will in particular be the subject of further investigations.

B. Sub-Commis s ion B

« T esting and Measurement of Weldin g

Equipment » . r. Continuation of the work concerning the suitability for welding of the various t ypes of apparatus. The influence of short-circuit currents on the tendancy to « freezing » of electroJe · and llte fusion losses of cellulo3e t ype electrodes will be studied, together with the effect of these new bases of judgement on the practical value of the criteria rand R.\ ro. For the determination of the criterion 1', efforts will be made to avoid using consumable electrodes. 2. Comparison of the various t ypes of apparatus previously studied by the Sub-Commission for the measurement of welding currents with consumable electrode and determination of the fusion constant of batches of electrodes of the same type. 3. Investigation on the minimum allowable compromise, from the operation– al point of view, for no-load voltage reducing devices. Continuation of the study on the safety regulations covering the risks from arc welding current. 4. Completion of the investigation on the specification of transformer rectifier welding sets to meet a request of ISO/TC 44. 5. Study of the problems raised by the connexion to the mains of single phase arc welding transformers. 6. Comparison of the different methods of calculating the pO\ver of multi– operator t ypes of welcling equipment. 7. Studies on the flexibility of welding cables and on the means for deter– mining it. 8. Studies with a view to laying down the permissible currents in \\·el– ding cables. C. Sub-Comm iss ion C « Testing and Measurement of Weld Metal » . r. Studies on the tendency to hot cracking of metal deposited by various t ypes of electrodes and, in particular, austenitic electrodes. 2. Development of testing methods for the acceptance of electrodes fo r the \Yelding of high tensile steels with a low carbon content and low alloy steel . The prescriptions envisaged will only apply to electrodes \Yith a diameter equal to or above 3.15 mm (0.124 in.) They ·will lay down the conditions for depositing the metal. Apart from the determination of the mechanical proper– ties, these prescriptions will also deal with cracking test s for use with various t ypes of electrode, including R (Rutile) t ype electrodes. 3. As a result of a request from I 0, a new study will be made of testing methods \Vith a view to the codification of deep penetration electrodes. D. Sub-Comm iss ion D « Deep Penetration Welding ». r. Investigation of the mecha nical properties of welded joints vvith deep penetration electrodes. 2. se of deep penetration electrodes for sealing runs without gouging. 3. Influence of the w~lding equipment on penetration, its regularity, the density of the joints, etc. 4. Problems raised by t he density of the joints in deep penetration welding.
