At its first meetings, the Commission prepared a list of the problems of general interest which it would have t o study . It also attempted to est ablish an order of prio rity for the matter t o be dealt with and the reports t o be prepared; at the top of the list were

powder cutting, building-up, the function of fluxes, economi c questions relating to the oxygen cutting proce3ses, fill er metals for oxy-ac~tylene welding.

Report s on these subj ect s were prepared and discussed . Later, in 1951, I 0 /'l'C 44/SC3 (Welding - Filler met als and electrodes) raised ce rtain problems regarding filler met als; the Commission felt obliged to carry out more fundament – al work in this field and several reports " ·ere prepared and complet ed in 195+ Pa rt of this work is, however, ~till in progre5s and will probably be finished in 1958 at Vienna. In 1954, the Commission decided t o investigat e full y brazing and oxygen cutting. Two Sub-Commissions were formed for this purpose, the first of which has prepared five draft documents which have since been adopt ed by the Com– mission and fo rwarded t o I SO/TC 44. The increasing general interest in metal spraying led , in 1957, t o the fo rma– tion of a Sub-Commission on this subj ect. A 'vorking group has been made responsib!P fo r carrying out a detailed investigation of the different methods of welding at present in use . Commission I may therefore claim that it has succeeded, by dint of constant effo rt, in making progress with the study of problems within its t erms of reference.
