E.S Additional requirements for attachable hooks used as lifting device(s)

E.5.1 Safety latch

Attachable hooks shall be provided with a safety latch, unless unintentional displacement of the sling or load

from the hook is prevented by other construction means (see Figure E.3). Damage of the safety latch due to

disadvantageous location of the hook shall be avoided. If a safety latch is used it shall meet the requirements

of 5.6 of EN 1677-2:2000.

E.5.2 Design and strength

E.5.2.1 Attachable hooks

E.5.2.2 Bolted hooks

For a bolted attachable hook the:

bolt dimensions;

bolt quality (e.g. 8.8);

holes at the intermediate plate and the

distance of the bore holes

shall be so designed that the requirements according to E.5.2.1 can be fulfilled.
