T h e new bus

Since 1964 500 new b u s e s have b een p u rc h a s e d and 50 m o re a re

o rd e r e d .

T h e b u s e s a r e fitted with a double e n tra n c e d oor in the fro n t of

the bus and the height of the s te p s is low: 2 70-210 and 200 m m .

G re a t im p o r ta n c e h a s b e e n a ttach ed to m a k in g the con v ey an ce

as c o m fo rta b le as p o s sib le to the p a s s e n g e r s and the b u s e s a re

th e r e f o r e fitted with a ir s u sp e n sio n (bellow s). The b u s e s a re

e ffectiv ely in s u la te d a g a in st noise.

T h e 200 b u s e s d e liv e re d m o s t re c e n tly have got an au to m a tic

g e a rb o x w hich p e r m i t s a sm o o th and sliding s ta r t. T h e bus is

h e ated by a s e p a r a te oil h e a te r b e fo re d e p a r tu r e in the m o r ­

ning.

The cap a c ity of the bus is 91 p a s s e n g e r s . T h e f i r s t d e liv e re d

300 b u s e s have a c a p a c ity of 30 s e a te d and 55 stan d in g p a s s e n ­

g e r s , but in the next 200 b u s e s s e a ts have b een a r r a n g e d fo r 45

p a s s e n g e r s - i. e. half of the to tal n u m b e r of p a s s e n g e r s .

A rtic u la te d t r a m c a r s in c o m p a ris o n have only s e a ts fo r l e s s

th a n one fou rth of the p a s s e n g e r s .

The new fa re s y s te m

A condition fo r one m a n o p e ra tio n is the s im p le fa r e s y s te m

which w as in tro d u c e d in 1964. The m a in e le m e n ts in the s y s ­

te m a r e the flat fa re tic k e t valid fo r f r e e T r a n s f e r s w ithin 1

h o u r, the to k e n , giving a disco un t and the s e a s o n tic k e t (one

m onth).

A c co rd in g to the long t e r m p la n th e c o n v e r s io n to full bus o p e r ­

ation should be c a r r i e d th ro u g h du rin g a p e rio d of 10 y e a r s , but

now it will only take 7 y e a r s as the final c o n v e rsio n will take

p la c e in 1972 in stea d of 1975.
