Dose Escalation Study at NIRS

For the purpose of finding an appropriate dose level, dose escalation

studies have been performed at NIRS.

Radiation dose was escalated

by increasing the fraction size, while

keeping both the fraction number and the length of treatment

constant

.

The treatment was delivered

4 days a week

and the radiation dose

was increased

in increments of 5 to 10%

up to the dose level at

which tolerance might be reached.

In recent years, the average number of treatment fractions per

patient has been around

13

and the average treatment period

about

3 weeks

.
