The deficits of modern proton RT
Range uncertainties are a problem
• Requires proper on-line imaging
• Tools for adaptive RT are missing
• Large margins needed
Image guidance is not fully developed
• Mostly just orthogonal X-rays
• CBCT just recently introduced, quality is low
Conformation not always optimal
• Treatment with few beams (mainly 2)
• Rotational therapy is absent
• Lateral penumbra is worse than photons at larger depth
Treatment time is still longer
Radiobiology not well understood (esp. Hypo-Fx)
