Getting
Started
From an early age, Leigh Weiss knew
he wanted a career in athletics. By high
school, though, he realized he didn’t have
the skills to pursue a pro sports career.
That’s when he became interested in
athletic training, an interest that grew
when he was in a car accident and needed
months of rehabilitation.
He saw the importance of physical therapy for recovering
from an injury and regaining strength. When he went to college,
Weiss majored in athletic training. After more study, he landed
a job with the New York Giants of the National Football League.
Leigh Weiss’s story is typical of many people who enter
sports medicine. They combine their love of sports and
competition with an interest in medicine. More specifically, they
want to see injured athletes regain their top form and excel as
they did before.
