While studying law, enrolls at the Académie Julian and meets Denis,

Serusier, Ibels and Ranson.

With Denis, Roussel, Vuillard, forms the

Nabis

group

1891

Begins exhibiting at the Salon des Indépendents. Shares a studio with Denis

and Vuillard. His poster

France-Champagne

becomes popular around Paris.

1893

Meets and becomes involved with his lifelong companion Marthe.

1895

Vollard exhibits

100

works by Cézanne.

1896

First solo exhibition at Durand-Ruel Gallery; exhibits with Vuillard at the

Salon de la Libre Esthétique in Brussels.

1897

Exhibits with Roussel, Vuillard, Denis, Ibels and others at Vollard’s gallery.

1900

Nabis

exhibition at Bernheim-Jeune Gallery.

1905

Travels to Belgium, Holland and England, often accompanied by Vuillard,

whose portrait he paints in
