“All superintendents are so
blessed to be given the responsibility
of guiding school districts through
these tough economic times and
through the ever-changing landscape
of education in the 21
st
century. It’s
very important that we take time to
give back to the community –
especially to those who are less
fortunate and in need of our help
even for their most basic of needs.”

Superintendent Dr. Patrick Martin set
up the Service Day project with South
Side Mission, bought groceries for
the meals and organized the
volunteers.
“I love it that members of the CIV
region come together to create
positive opportunities for service such
as the one at South Side Mission. In
the years that we have been doing
this I continue to hear from the
directors of the entities that we service what a great
thing that this is and how they appreciate our good
work,” said Martin, who also is a member of the IASA
Board of Directors. “Opportunities such as these
provide our region with the chance to showcase the
great people that we have working in the
superintendency and that we really do care about the
well-being of the communities in which we
serve. This type of service by superintendents
occurs all over the state, but it is neat for one day to
focus our energy as collective members of the Illinois
Association of School Administrators and work
alongside our regional colleagues.”
In addition to Martin, Hall and Asplund, the CIV
superintendents who participated included: Dr. Chad
Allaman of Central District 51 in Washington and
President of the IASA CIV Region, Dr. Roger Alvey of
Elmwood Unit District 322;
Paula Davis of Pekin
Community High School
District 303; Robert Gold of
Eureka Community District
140; Allen Gresham of
Limestone Community High
School District 310; Dr.
Allen Johnson of Pleasant
Valley Elementary District
62; Michelle Lee of
Riverview
Community
Consolidated District 2;
Sally Masear, director of the
Tazewell-Mason Counties
Special
Education
Association (TMCSEA); Dr.
Nick Polyak of Illinois Valley
Central Unit District 321;
Byron Sondgeroth at North
Pekin-Marquette Heights District 102; and Randy
Toepke of Metamora Township High School District
122.
