• This presentation explores the specific challenges relating to the application of

Functional Safety to fast developing hazards

• Experience from 6 large FPSO projects over the past 2 years

• For some high pressure hazards where the initiating event is human error, it

may not be possible to design a reactive SIF to perform its function quickly

enough.

• A variety of solutions can be applied, including the implementation of Inhibit

SIFs, which present their own particular challenges.

• Particular focus on the riser de-packing hazard and its specific challenges.
