– Introduction To Business, Grade 10, Open

1 CREDIT

Have you ever considered a career in business? This new course will introduce you to marketing,

economics, accounting, finance, human resources and the importance of ethics and social responsibility.

You will have the opportunity to test your business prowess in a stock market competition, interview

entrepreneurs at the One of a Kind Show and taste test various foods to determine the difference

between branded and generic products. You will also learn how to create budgets, read pay stubs and

examine the benefits and drawbacks of various financial instruments. Most importantly, the knowledge

and skills you will gain in this class will continue to help you long after you graduate from Havergal.

Students in Grades 9 or 10 may take this course

BAF3M

– Financial Accounting, Grade 11, University/College Preparation

1 CREDIT

Every business needs individuals who understand how to read and interpret financial information. This

course will teach you the fundamentals of accounting and how to speak the language of business. At

the end of this course you will be able to account for transactions in a sole proprietorship. This course

will demonstrate how Microsoft Excel is used in the business world and will focus on skills such as

basic formulas and formatting worksheets.

Students in Grades 10 to 12 may take this course

– Financial Accounting Principles, Grade 12, University/College Preparation

1 CREDIT

If you intend on pursuing a degree in commerce, this course is for you! Grade 12 Accounting will build

on the foundational concepts introduced in Grade 11 Accounting by examining accounting methods for

assets and accounting for partnerships and corporations. You will also learn how to read and interpret

financial statements and solve business case studies. Most importantly, you will be prepared to tackle

introductory accounting courses at university.

Prerequisite: BAF3M – Financial Accounting, Grade 11
