It's not often that welding will steal the limelight on TV. But TV’s

‛dirtiestman’ has been honoredwitha 2015 excellence inwelding

award from the American Welding Society (AWS) and WEMCO,

an association of welding manufacturers.

US TV host Mike Rowe is the first ever recipient of an award in the

exceptional category, created as a special recognition given

to people who go above and beyond to promote welding and

skilled trades. The full story features on page 10 in this issue of

wiredInUSA.

Mr Rowe earned the ‛dirtiest man’ title for hosting the Discovery

Channel’s Dirty Jobs show.

Aside from this, healso founded theMikeroweworks Foundation,

a public charity that awards scholarships to students pursuing a

career in the skilled trades.

So far the foundation has awarded $3m in scholarships across the

US in support of closing the country's skills gap.
