Discovering
Dogs
All dogs share a common ancestor,
whether they are is tiny Chihuahuas
or enormous Great Danes. They are
all descended from the wolf, and even
though dogs have been domesticated
for more than 14,000 years, we can
still see wolf-like behavior in our pets.
I
n the wild, the wolf is a pack animal, which means
he lives in a tightly-knit unit and abides by the
rules of the pack leaders. The top-ranking male
and female—the
alpha male
and alpha female—are
the decision-makers. The other members of the
pack, who are all closely related, occupy different
places in the hierarchy depending on their age and
status.
