Choosing
a Breed
What breed of dog will best suit
your family and lifestyle? There are
a number of factors to bear in mind
when choosing the perfect pet.
Inherited behavior
T
he first and most important consideration
is to find out the background of a breed and
the reason why that breed was developed.
This will give you a very good indication of
temperament and behavioral traits. For example,
a breed such as the Border Collie that was bred to
herd sheep retains strong working instincts and
therefore needs both physical exercise and mental
stimulation. In contrast, a Toy breed such as a
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was bred to be the
perfect companion and wants nothing more than to
be with his beloved family.
