Male or
female?
Before you go to see a litter, it will be
helpful if you have made up your mind
as to whether you want a male or a
female. Every dog is an individual and
so it is impossible to generalize about
the temperament of either gender.
However, there are a few points to
consider:
• In most breeds, the male will be bigger and
stronger than the female. This does not apply to
Toy breeds where males and females are about
the same size.
• If you are opting for one of the more challenging
breeds—a Rottweiler or a Boxer, for example—
the male may be more assertive and will require
firm handling.
