Horncastle, was three and one-half
years of age when he became a teetotaler and though but a
little child he seemed to understand all the ·principles of the
Temperance Pledge for he became very anxious that others
should abstain from intoxicating drinks and urged his parents
to do so.
To pacify the child they refrained from taking anything in
his presence although not abstemious themselves.
One day at the dinner table, his father unthinkingly took a
draught of beer.
