HE
cases of the deaths of inebriates by internal fires
kindled spontaneously have become so numerous and
so incontrovertible t_hat I suppose no person of informa–
tion will question it.
Dr. Peter Scholfield of Upper Canada tells us of "a young
man about twenty-five years of age. He had been an habitual
drunkard for many years: I saw him about nine o'clock in the
evening on which it happened; he was then, as usually, not drunk
but full of liquor; about eleven o'clock the same evening I was
called to see him.
