ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dorian Kerklaan was born on the 8

th

of April 1986 in Leiden, The Netherlands. She completed

her high school (Gymnasium, cum laude) at the ‘Stedelijk Gymnasium Leiden’ in 2004. In

the same year she moved to Maastricht to start her medical training at the Faculty of Health

Medicine and Life Sciences of Maastricht University. As part of her clinical rotations, she did

a clinical elective in paediatrics in the Mater Dei Hospital in Malta. After finishing her senior

clinical elective in paediatrics in the Atrium Medical Centre in Heerlen, she obtained her

master’s degree in 2010.

In January 2011 she started working as a resident in the Erasmus MC - Sophia Children’s

Hospital in Rotterdam, both on the peadiatric medium care and intensive care unit. In 2012 she

started her dissertation on nutritional support in critically ill children at the paediatric intensive

care unit (promotor

prof.dr.

D. Tibboel, supervisors dr. K.F.M. Joosten, dr. S.C.A.T. Verbruggen).

During this period she was a board member of the Sophia Researchers Association and

organised the Theme Sophia Research Days in 2014 and 2015.

In June 2016 Dorian will start her paediatrics residency at the University Medical Centre Utrecht

– Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital in Utrecht and the Gelre Ziekenhuizen in Apeldoorn. Dorian

currently lives in Utrecht, together with Anton van Rooij.
