Meeting of the Council.

3rd June.

Twenty members present.

Court Officers' Bill.

This Bill as amended on Report stage in

the Dail was considered, and the terms of

amendments which the Council decided to

seek to have proposed in the Senate were

settled.

Circuit Court Pleadings.

Resolutions were submitted from County

Tipperary and King's County (Birr Division)

Sessional Bar Association and from the

Roscommon Solicitors' Bar, expressing the

opinion that there should be no pleadings in

the Circuit Courts.

The resolutions were

referred to the Circuit and District Courts

Committee.

Sheriffs' Fees.

A report was submitted giving particulars

of an interview which the Vice-Presidents,

Mr. W. Gordon Bradley and the Secretary,

had with Mr. Finlay, Secretary of

the

Ministry of Justice, in reference to a draft

Order prepared by the Ministry prescribing

scales of Under-Sheriffs' Fees for all Courts.

Obituary.

MR. WILLIAM J. RYAN, Solicitor, died

upon the 1st day of June, 1926, at Jervis

Street Hospital, Dublin.

Mr. Ryan served his apprenticeship with

Mr. Henry R. E. Disney, Dublin; was

admitted

in Hilary Sittings,

19Q6,

and

practised at 83 Lower Gardener Street,

Dublin.

MR. JOHN LANIGAN, Solicitor, died upon

the 16th June, 1926, at Manchester.

Mr. Lanigan served his apprenticeship with

the late Mr. John A. Quinn, Dungannon ;

was admitted in Trinity Sittings, 1901, and

practised at Kilkenny.

MR. CROKER BARRIXGTON, Solicitor, died

upon the 23rd June, 1926, at Redcliffe,

Exmouth, Devonshire.

Mr. Barrington was called to the Irish Bar

in 1876, and was admitted a Solicitor

in

1883. He practised as a member of the firm

of Barrington and Son, 10 Ely Place, Dublin,

till 1904, when he was appointed Solicitor to

the Great Southern and Western Railway of

Ireland at Kingsbridge, Dublin, from which

position he retired in 1923.

From 1892-94

he was a member of the Council.

Professorship of Equity, Real Property and

Conveyancing.

The Council have appointed Mr. John J.

Early, Solicitor, to the above Professorship.

Mr. Early obtained first place and a silver

medal at his Final Examination, and was

admitted in Hilary Sittings, 1919.
