June is behind us now and it proved to be a very busy month at NCYC. The first Great Smoke,
held on the patio, gave us the chance to sample two really good Scotch whiskeys along with
one’s own favorite cigar. The turnout was good and it’s rumored that next year’s event will
feature a wider variety of samples to appeal the non Scotch lovers among us. My thanks to
Don Ruma for hosting the event.
This year’s Kids Day filled the Island with more children than I have seen in a long time. From
the Trick or Treat to the Water slide to the games on the lawn, the Kids all had a great time
and at the end of the day it was hard to tell who was more exhausted, the children or the
parents. Junior member Shelby Romatz did a fantastic job in putting the day’s events together
and deserves our many thanks.
This year’s first rendezvous pitted man against Mother Nature. The wind and rain on Saturday
did not dampen our spirits and thanks to the staff at River Street Marina for providing us with
shuttle service with their own vehicles, the Pub Crawl was a blast. Speaking of blasts,
Saturday afternoon the wind destroyed the tent we were using and we moved the evening’s
activities into the storage room in the back of the marina building. Sunday, the weather finally
cleared and we were able to enjoy the outdoors for a while. Thanks to Jill and Rick for
tolerating the weather and still putting on a great rendezvous.
June was a great month for NCYC, all of the clubs events were well attended and everyone
that participated had a great time.
Please make sure that we continue to get up to the club and enjoy the rest of the summers
events, you won’t regret it.
