Incidence:

cases arising in a given

time period in a specified population. Collected

routinely by cancer registries.

Distinguish from

prevalence

: number of persons

in a specified population who have been

diagnosed with a disease, and who are

still alive

on a particular date

Incidence rate

: eg number of cases diagnosed per

100,000 persons per year.
