How to manage women with a positive SLNB?

Completion clearance or radiotherapy

Regional recurrence rates are very
low, (2%) and depend on tumour
biology, patient age and tumour size

Seminal trial: ACOSOG Z0011 trial.

800+ women with +ve SLN
randomised to completion clearance
or lower axillary RT as part of
standard breast RT fields.

At 6 years median FU, regional rates of
recurrence were 0.5% versus 0.9% and
not significantly different
