The League of Nations is established.

The United Nations Conference in San Francisco
begins.

The Charter of the United Nations is signed by fifty
nations.
April 1946
The League of Nations is disbanded.
December 10, 1948
The United Nations adopts the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights.
December 14, 1960
The United Nations issues Resolution 1514, also
known as the“Declaration on the granting of
independence to colonial countries and peoples.”
December 15, 1960
The United Nations issues Resolution 1541, listing
the ways by which a Non-Self-Governing Territory
could achieve self-determination.
1962
The Special Committee on Decolonization is
established.
1963
Western Sahara is added to the UN’s Non-Self-
Governing Territories list.
1966
The United Nations ends South Africa’s mandate
over South West Africa, adding the Territory to the
Non-Self-Governing Territories list.
