Cystic VS
•
10% of VS are cystic
•
Associated with higher degrees of hearing loss
•
VS cysts are thought to arise from:
–
recurrent microbleeding or
–
osmosis-induced expansion of CSF trapped in
arachnoid tissue
•
Cystic VS may rapidly expand
•
Surgery is favoured over SRS in the management
of cystic VS
•
In one study 6.4% of cystic VS treated with SRS
required surgery
