Ovid Vickers, retired East Cen-

tral Community College English

instructor and longtime weekly

newspaper columnist, released

his second book, “Notes in the

Margin: A Collection of Columns

About East Central Community

College,” during the college’s an-

nual Homecoming festivities.

Copies are available for pur-

chase for $30, which includes tax,

with net proceeds being desig-

nated for the ECCC Foundation.

Books can also be shipped for a

minimal fee. For more informa-

tion visit

www.eccc.edu/estore.

“Notes in the Margin” is a col-

lection of essays Vickers pulled

from his weekly newspaper

columns, which highlight various

people, places and events associ-

ated with East Central Community College.

Vickers, who retired from the college in 1995 after 40-plus years

of service, continues to live with his wife, Carol, near the campus in

Decatur.

He said in a recent interview, “EC afforded me a livelihood for

years and I thought I would do something to compensate the college

for all it had invested in me.”

ECCC President Dr. Billy Stewart wrote in the book’s message from

the president, “I trust that as you read this book you will enjoy the

history of East Central contained in it, including stories about the col-

lege’s faculty, student body, and campus facilities.”
