Mother is unable to breastfeed, or bleeding continues despite breastfeeding
Mother displays signs and symptoms consistent with hypovolemia

Explain the procedure to the patient.

Place one hand over the proximal end of the symphysis pubis and apply pressure.

Locate the fundus with the other hand and “knead” it with firm pressure.
