Page Background

Small states, in particular, need to be resilient

The international donor community, in supporting the economic

development of SIDS, should take cognizance of these states’

high degree of economic vulnerability and assign major

importance to reinforcing resilience building, so as to enable

these states to strengthen their ability to withstand and cope

with economic shocks.

All countries face external economic shocks and therefore need

to be economically resilient, but, as argued above, SIDS are

disproportional exposed to such shocks, and therefore

economic-resilience building is especially important for these

states.
