A

iPod shuffle

First up is Apple’s iPod

shuffle – the perfect

little stocking stuffer.

You can’t get more

budget-friendly than

this nugget of an MP3

player. It’s small but sturdy, with an aluminium

clip that firmly fastens the iPod shuffle to shirts

or backpacks – perfect for runners. There’s no

screen, but thanks to VoiceOver, you’re not left

wondering what’s playing. On the top edge is

a button that activates this function: press it

once and you hear what track is playing, press

it twice to hear the battery level (up to 15

hours!), and holding the button down scrolls

through your different playlists. The iPod shuffle

has room for 2GB of music – that’s a few

hundred tracks – easily transferred from iTunes.

And new to the device is support for multiple

playlists, including Genius Playlists from your

iTunes collection.

faster and further. There are five intensity

case you’re not in the zone. Within zones,

you can also set goals, for distance, calories

burned, or time. You can also compete against

yourself by comparing previous performances.

The sport watch is slick on the wrist and has

large, easy to read display. The display pops

out and connects to a computer to accesses

TomTom’s website and a range of personalised

LG 3D Blu-Ray/DVD Recorder

500GB (BR625T)

Got any old VHS vids lying around collecting

dust in the garage? Maybe a classic homemade

film that hasn’t been watched since the ‘90s?

With LG’s Blu-ray player you can digitise it! It

connects, and can record from, a VHS player or

camcorder via a composite AV port, thus safely

digitising those old memories for the future.

And you can go crazy converting old to new:

the player has room for 500GB. That’s just one

nifty feature of this package deal player. It’s also

a personal video recorder (PVR), a DVD player

and a Blu-ray player with 3D or 2D playback.

The player is a twin HD tuner, which means

you can record two channels at the same

time, or watch one channel while conveniently

recording the other.

Pioneer XDJ-R1 Controller

with Wi-Fi

Don’t be puzzled the next time you see a DJ at

the bar instead of in the booth mixing tunes:

he’s probably doing his thing remotely on his

iPad. Yes, next level! The XDJ-R1 has its own

WLAN network that connects to iOS devices

to offer Wi-Fi remote control of the mixer.

Taken as a whole, the XDJ-R1 is a versatile all

rounder, ideally suited to amateur DJs wishing

to take a step up into the pro realm for the

first time – and be mobile. It features Pioneer’s

trademark rekordbox software, which helps you

to prepare and manage music files ready for

DJing. But as well as a software controller, the

two-channel mixer also works with USBs and

CDs. Each deck has four beat FX (Transform,

Flanger, Echo and Roll), a three-band EQ, and

effects including Noise, Pith, Crush and Filter.

All you need now is a big red bow to wrap

around it and make the best pressie of the year.

The only thing worse than receiving a gift you’re not so

stoked with, is giving one! If you’re a little nervous in the lead

up to the biggest gift giving day of the year, take a big breath,

take heart and keep reading: we’ve got four epic ideas that

won’t require a ‘just in case’ exchange voucher.
