You know what I love? The
CD players in a car. When
you put the CD right up by
the slot, it actually takes
it out of your hand, like
it’s hungry. You feel like it
wants more silver discs.”

Another Year
of Change...
S
o another year of changes, and another
year is over. This year we’ve seen
streaming increasingly begin to
dominate the music landscape, although
the dear old physical CD is holding its
own. What’s been far more surprising
in the last two years has been a
resurgence in vinyl – on page 14 of
this issue we speak to Paul Kelly
(who I was amazed to learn has
never owned a turntable). He’s
released his new album
Merri Soul
Sessions
as a series of vinyl singles
and as a full length vinyl album.
Speaking to Kelly, he alluded more to
the tactile nature of the format than
the sound quality. In this oh-so-virtual
world, it seems the physically tangible
remains an increasing novelty. Meanwhile,
JB Hi-Fi keeps all the bases covered: the
streaming service available at JB Hi-Fi NOW has
gone from strength to strength this year with an
ever-deepening catalogue representing very strong value for music lovers. Similarly, the demand for
vinyl has been met with stores, with key locations creating specific vinyl sections with really diverse
ranges (see our profile of JB Hi-Fi Adelaide on page 14).Thanks for reading

delicate parts of our bodies making
