CASE STUDY 1
Steve – Harbourne Garage Birmingham
Car – 2012 VW Toureg 3.0 TDi
Fault – Park Brake & Hill decent warning
Data – Basic settings not met, Module incorrectly coded
This Toureg had come in for a straight – forward service and
pads all round. Everything went fine except for when they got
to the ‘Grind – In Process’ on the rear brakes. While they were
performing this the dash displayed Hill Decent and EPB faults
with a very annoying constant chime making it un-driveable.
Upon returning to the garage the standard diagnostics scanner
returned faults relating to Module 53 (EPB) incorrectly coded and
Basic Settings Not Met. These would not clear, even when the
module was recoded with its original code. Eventually Steve gave
up and booked the car in at the local VW Dealer. A few days later
they collected the car with a £1000 bill to be told the module had
been replaced but the faults still remained and it just needed
driving for a few 100 miles!! Huh?
At this point Autologic Assist Plus was brought into the picture.
An initial scan returned the same faults as previously. A full scan
was carried out, and the log sent to Autologic Assist Support
along with a brief of procedures up to that point. Within 15
minutes the call came back from Autologic Support. Turns out
they had seen this a few time recently and they had learnt
that the modules were not programmed correctly from factory
and this gets uncovered when any alteration / component
replacement takes place. The engineer gave a step-by-step walk
through of the recoding process and the unit was successfully
recoded in the Binary Hex (sounds technical but they made
it child’s play). Once the new code was saved, the fault code
cleared automatically and the dash warning disappeared.
What a result – Autologic fixed a car in less than an hour
the even the dealer could not sort!
Now – what about that £ 1,000 bill!
CASE STUDY 2
Tony – A&S Tyres Swansea
Car – 2011 2.0 TDi Octavia (Taxi)
Fault – Stuck in Limp Home
Data – DPF Soot value too high
Tony had replaced the DPF – however the Exhaust Gas Pressure
reading was still excessive. After internet research he found
that the pressure needed to be reset. He tried this using various
standard diagnostic equipment. All of them said it was cleared
but live data said otherwise. As a result not being able to clear
the fault codes, the Engine Management Light remained made
on and Glow Plug Light stayed flashing, and the vehiclewas
stuck in Limp Home.
Autologic Assist Plus was introduced at this point. Within the
‘Special Functions’ feature was found a ‘Soot Quantity Reset’
function. Within, were notes on how the procedure should be
performed if either the DPF or the pressure converter had been
replaced. After resetting the value as per the notes (engine
at idle), the fault codes could then be successfully deleted.
Upon re-checking the live data, the soot value now read normal.
The car went on to deliver a perfect test run on a full drive cycle.
This car had been in the workshop for 3 days,
Autologic resolved the fault in 3 minutes!
