Twirling
This is when a hamster spins or walks in circles,
over and over. If seen in a very young hamster it is
possible he had brain damage from birth. In older
animals, it may be the result of a middle ear infec-
tion or brain damage from a stroke or tumor.
It may also be, like bar biting, a behavior that
indicates a psychological problem, namely a stressed
or bored hamster.
Hamster medicine
Veterinary knowledge of hamsters has increased
hugely over the last few years and there is now much
more that can be done for your pet. However, unlike
cat and dog medicine which all veterinary surgeons
know a lot about, hamsters are a specialist subject
and it is worth finding a vet who is interested in them
and their treatment.
