Signs of a
Healthy
Hamster
Check that the hamster you choose is
fit and well. A reputable pet store or
breeder should be able to tell you all
about the hamsters in their care.
You might want to ask about the following:
How old is the hamster?
Ideally it should be around 5–6 weeks old. Older ani-
mals are fine, if they have been handled and are tame.
At what age do you get young
hamsters into your shop?
A good pet shop should never get animals that are less
than 4 weeks old as they are still dependent on their
mother for milk.
