RFID tag in power cable drums

The newest offering from

Aberdare Cables

is the AberTrack, an

‘InventoryTrack &Trace & Stock’ management solution.This inno-

vative offering is a technology of a Radio Frequency Identification

(RFID) system. All Aberdare Cables drums are now fitted with a

RFID tag. This tag is a small electronic chip that has an antenna.

This tag has a unique identifying number that links it back to the

drum number of any product produced by Aberdare, which is

supplied on a wooden drum. This mechanism serves to work the

same as a barcode, where the differentiation of

a product is made and complete understanding

of what product, with what quantity and storage

location is populated onto a web-based database.

This information is retrieved by a reader/scanner

that reads the information off the RFID tag.

The technology is highly advantageous to both

Aberdare and its customers.The positioning of the

drums needs to be within a range of an area that is

covered by readers. Although the RFID technology

has been around for a long time, the ability to use

this chip in power cable being sold, is a new con-

cept. This is a cost efficient method for inventory

management.This methodology is complementary

to and compliant with the ISO standards of stock

management.

AberTrack allows the manufacturers, suppliers

and end-users of the cable to validate their stock

requirements and manage any theft problems they might have.

The lifespan of tag is three to four years which this gives peace

of mind to project owners who have long term projects and need

to secure and draw stock over longer periods and at project sites.

AberTrack allows customers to monitor goods from invoicing at

any Aberdare site to when they arrive at the customers door step.
