FBI Internet

Challenge

Lick Creek Middle School in Buncombe was a

national winner of the FBI Safe Online Surfing Internet

Challenge for the month of October 2016. Lick Creek

students posted the best score in the country among

schools of similar size. An awards ceremony was held

by the FBI at the school February 27.

Under the guidance of Drew Robbins, the math and

technology teacher at the middle school, Lick Creek

students produced the top results on a quiz, which

was part of an internet safety program developed and

administered by the FBI.

“We want to thank the FBI for developing this

program. Internet safety is something that is

extremely important for students to understand given

the role the internet plays in today’s world,” said Lick

Creek Superintendent Brent Boren. “We are very

proud of Mr. Robbins and our students.”

The FBI program is a free monthly educational

program that runs each school year from September

through May for students in grades 3 through 8.

The program meets state and federal internet safety

mandates and is designed to provide students with

knowledge about how to avoid dangerous situations

on the internet. Students take an online pre-quiz,

learning about internet safety in a scavenger hunt,

and then they take an online post-quiz.

In October of 2016, 74, 834 students from 1,308

schools in 49 states participated. For more

information, please log on to
