Conclusions
1. Proof Testing the SIFs is of the utmost importance in maintaining
the design Target Failure Measure for the SIF and thereby the
Target Risk.
2. Procedures for Proof Testing should be addressed at the design
stage and this should involve the end user which may influence
the design.
3. Proof Test procedures should be developed which are effective
and precisely specified.
4. Ineffective Proof Testing may lead to an increase in the
Hazardous Event Frequency (i.e. the frequency of the incident on
site arising)
5. The PFD
avg
of the SIFs should be reviewed and optimised to
minimise the impact to the business, it may be worth more
capital investment in the design state to minimise the longer term
operational costs
