Epidemiology
• ES is nonetheless an infrequent cancer, with
approximately 250-300 new cases diagnosed in
patients < 20 yrs of age per year in North America
• Incidence is low before age of 5 yrs: 0.6 per million,
but progressively rises towards puberty (peak rate of
5 per million)
• The most common age of diagnosis is the 2
nd
decade
of life (65%)
• Males > Females (1.3 : 1)
