John M Watterson Solicitor

There used to be four O'Connor

brothers in practice as solicitors but

now there are only three. That is

because

Tony,

who had been a

solicitor in Arthur Cox, in the Legal

Department of Aer Lingus and

subsequently with Rory O'Donnell &

Co., decided in the late 1980's that

what he really wanted to be was

a barrister. Accordingly he jumped

the wall and was admitted at the Bar

where he is practising happily. He has

had for many years a particular

interest in EU and Irish Competition

Law and it was the launch of

Tony's

Competition Law Source Book

(publishers: Round Hall.Sweet

& Maxwell) which was the

occasion which brought the

O'Connor brothers together for the

above photo.

Tony's brother,

John

is a sole

practitioner in Dublin and is currently

a member of the Council of the Dublin

Solicitors Bar Association. Their

brother

Tom,

by contrast, is a partner

in one of the largest firms in the

country, A & L Goodbody, where he

practices mainly in the area of

Commercial Property Law.

Eldest brother

Pat

practised with

Hayes & Sons in Dublin in 1975 and

then went home to Swinford, Co.

Mayo where he is the principal in the

family firm of P. O'Connor & Son

which was founded by the brothers'

grandfather and continued by their

father,

Thomas V. O'Connor,

who was

President of the Law Society in 1972-

73.

Pat

is also following in his

father's Law Society footsteps where

he is a Council Member and is now in

his third year as Chairman of the

Education Committee. He was the

Society's Junior Vice President in

1993-94.
