GAZETTE

APRIL /MAY 1996

Event Diary

maintenance payments are to a former

spouse or for the benefit of a child.

The chapter on Estates is essential

reading for anyone administering an

estate and is very well explained for any

non specialist. The chapter on

Retirement Plans is very useful for

anyone needing advise on pensions or

retirement annuities and the income tax

reliefs which apply. The chapter on

Investment deals with income tax

provisions affecting Special Investment

Policies and S c h emes and Special

Portfolio Investment Account which

were all new forms of special

investment productions carrying a 10%

tax charge under the 1993 Finance Act.

Income tax advice should not be the

sole preserve of the accountant. With

the availability of Mr. Judge's latest

annual update, every solicitor can give

s ome general income tax advice to any

client. His book is written in a user

i

friendly style and is very extensive, it is

| well laid out and indexed, and is written

by an author who has an imme n se

kn ow l e d ge of his subject.
