The Bar Review,
published by the Bar Council, is available
each month during court term with a total of nine issues published
from October to July. The core of the
Bar Review
is the Legal
Update section which contains a comprehensive guide to
substantive and procedural legal developments, displayed in
alphabetical order on a subject by subject basis
The Update refers readers to all up-to-date judgments, legislative
enactments and legal articles published, as they occur on a
monthly basis. It also contains a guide to the status of bills in
progress and European provisions implemented into Irish Law.
The Legal Update is complemented in the
Bar Review
with
articles of comment and analysis from members of the Bar on
topical legal issues and developments. Regular features in the
Bar
Review
include the Eurowatch section which concentrates on
developments in European law and policy and the Online section
dealing with aspects of technology and the law.
In addition, book reviews concentrate on the latest publications of
academic and practical interest.
Some of the issues covered in the
Bar Review
since its launch in
June of this year include:
• A review of the law of insanity,
• Judicial developments in the law relating to petitions to wind
up a company,
• The latest Requisitions on Title issued by the Law Society,
• The need for reform of arbitration law,
• The impact of the Competition Act, 1996 on the regulation of
economic activity in Ireland,
• The changes introduced by the Family Law Act, 1995,
• A i( view of the Proceeds of Crime Act, 1996.
The
Bar Review
combines the best of academic and practical
comment and analysis on the widest possible range of legal
developments. The Legal Update is produced by the library staff
in the Law Library with the assistance of researchers in the Judges
Library in the Four Courts. The articles are written by practising
barristers who are uniquely placed to observe the impact of, and
the need for, legal developments across the full range of legal
