EXTRAS

I

s it really June

already? Yes it is and

for gamers that can

only mean one thing:

it’s time for E3. What

can we expect this

year? Well, Nintendo

have already dashed

any hopes that its

enigmatic NX will

appear, announcing

that it would reveal the

console later this year.

Will the rumoured

PS4.5 or modular

Microsoft console make an

appearance?

E3 will indeed be different in

2016 with EA pulling out from

its traditional presence, instead

opting to reveal its upcoming

slate at a press conference on

the Sunday before the show.

And Activision, too, will ditch

the booth, instead opting

solely for behind closed doors

sessions.

Elsewhere, it’s business

as usual with Bethesda,

Microsoft, Ubisoft and Sony

all conducting press briefings.

VR will again feature heavily

with more on Sony’s PSVR and

its purported slew of titles.

Just what Microsoft intends

to do with its augmented

reality headset remains

to be seen, but we’ll

undoubtedly see jaw-

dropping game demos

featuring the tech.

And what about

the games? Well, as

expected there’s a

quality line-up and we

could fill the page here

with our most wanted

lists, but we’ll save that

for post-show analysis.

Despite EA and

Activision removing their

booth presence, E3 remains

the highlight on the gaming

show calendar, exhibiting the

very best we can expect to

be playing in the lead up to

Christmas and beyond. Keep

an eye on the website and our

social media channels for all

the up to date coverage while

we’re over there.

CRITIC

COSPLAY TIME!

I

f you're looking for your next pop culture

convention fix, June is the month for you.

Whether you live in Melbourne, Sydney or

Perth, there's a chance for you to dust your

cosplay off and pull out the trusty Sonic.

If you find yourself within earshot of Jeff's

Shed on June 11 and 12 for the Melbourne leg

of

Oz Comic-Con

, you might catch sight of

Rachel Luttrell (

Stargate: Atlantis

), Robert Patrick

(

Terminator 2

), John Barrowman (

Torchwood,

Arrow

), Lucy Lawless (

Xena: Warrior Princess

-

Saturday only), or Rose McIver (

iZombie

).

For those headed to

Supanova

in Sydney

(June 17-19) or Perth (June 24-26), you may be

lucky enough to run into Travis Fimmel (

Vikings,

Warcraft

), Sean Astin (

The Lord of the Rings

),

Tyler Hoechlin (

Teen Wolf

), Peter Facinelli (

The

Twilight Saga

), or even Troy Baker (

Uncharted 4:

A Thief's End

) – whom

STACK

is lucky enough

to be chatting with! Keep your eyes peeled for

our interview online, and don't forget to share

with us all your cosplay pics.

XBOX COMES ALIVE

I

f you’re looking for an excuse to pick up an

Xbox One console (like

Halo 5: Guardians

isn’t

enough), this month at JB you’ll score a bonus

four months of Xbox Live Gold for free when

you purchase a new system!

What will that get you? Xbox Live has been

around since the original Xbox, and is one of the

easiest ways to game with mates. Xbox Live

Gold, the paid subscription service, gives you

even more bang for your buck, with Microsoft

offering a selection of games for free every

month with your Gold subscription. You’ll pick

up almost $1000 worth of free games over the

course of a yearly subscription.

Adding to the appeal of Microsoft’s

newest console is the backward compatibility

catalogue. Now you can chuck in your old 360

discs and play yesterday's favourite titles today,

with more becoming available all the time. So

far, you can check out classics like

Call of Duty:

Black Ops, Gears of War 3, Assassin's Creed 2,

and

Borderlands.
