“Colours of black and blue were first worn by the 1st XI in

1873 and in the following year the 2nd XI were privileged to

wear a cerise coloured ribbon on their hats.

During 1873 and 1874 cricket was played in the Quad,

though most home matches took place on the Keble

College ground (on the opposite of the Woodstock Road).

It is sad to relate that in the latter year, the School, in a

match with North Moreton, were all dismissed for 7 runs.

1874 was also noteworthy for being the first year in which

the School played against an Oxford College - H.W.R.

Bencraft took 28 wickets for 3 runs in 1873 and had a

batting average of 24 in 1874.”
