Lizards
I remembered Rat
because he was the one who taught us how to break
lizard tails
that’s how we saw
how their tail can regrow.
we felt that there was something miraculous at work
that something like this
was not possible
.
but it was.
because with God
everything is possible.
with God and with lizards.
back then I was reading Omar,
my whiskers were starting to appear, I was a dreamer
and had still not learned
that we too grow by mangling our body.
and sometimes, even now when I write these lines
I’m still waiting for my hands to grow, my long hands,
the hands with which I pick the apples in the garden.
