Sept. 1 the following Declaration to
the garrison and inhabitants was published
by the Commandant:
'The Admiral of the Enemy’s fleet in our
road as weli as the Commander o f the land-
forces, who are landed in Zealand have to
day summoned me to surrender our fleet to
his Britannic Majesty, and to content to their
carrying it awa y , on condition o f its being
returned at a general peace in Europe. I
