UNEP Shelf Programme

The UNEP Shelf Programme was established to assist dev

eloping states and SIDS to complete the activities required

to delineate the outer limits of their continental shelves.

Since 12May 2009, the focus of the UNEP Shelf Programme

has been to assist developing countries in transforming their

Preliminary Information Documents into full submissions.

• The 2011 capacity building programme included

technical and legal support for the negotiation of

the 22 cases of unresolved boundaries in the region.

The inclusion of maritime boundaries that were not

originally foreseen has resulted in the expansion of

the number of countries participating in the pro-

gramme, to 13 countries.
