ABS Filament
ABS, or Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, is among the
most popular 3D printing materials in the world because
it is easy to print and strong. ABS is a durable plastic that
can be used for making functional / end use 3D printed
parts or prototyping. ABS printed parts can be sanded or smoothed using
an expert technique with acetone.
Advanced users have found that visible layer height on ABS-printed items
can be significantly reduced with an acetone vapor bath. This is a process in
which the ABS print is exposed to acetone vapor for a period of time. This
technique allows users to have smooth and glossy ABS parts. The acetone
vapor-treated parts may be strengthened when the printed layers together
bind together.

PLA Filament
Polylactic Acid (PLA), is a thermoplastic aliphatic polyester
also known as Polylactide. Considered to be a great starter
filament, PLA is relatively easy to print and extrudes at a
low temperature (180°C) . PLA is one of the most com-
monly used filaments in 3D printing due to its affordability and ease of use.
PLA is specifically easier to use because it doesn't warp like other mate-
rials can, making it ideal for printing large items. Plus PLA is a plant-based
renewable source, and many believe it emits a sweet and pleasant odor
while printing. As PLA has minimal warping and shrinkage, PLA is ideal for
making objects that need flat surfaces and hard angles, or objects that will
fit together. PLA is more brittle than ABS, but is still considered very strong
and is perfect for most household applications.
