The Poseidon of Misery

Happiness is not an emotion

I understood this once

when I had been patient enough

to walk a marked road, at last

suddenly I was in eagle's haven

and there was nothing to grasp

happiness is wisdom

like a snare for a willow grouse

it appears before a poet

and it was understood by Rimbaud

the Poseidon of misery

or Achilles, not Socrates

Socrates: If perfect knowledge

about justice comes to light

mankind will be saved!

Rimbaud: The strength of your heart

is the albatross of your mind
