“Stop it!” yelled Jacob.

“Stop it! Quick!” yelled the others.

But the kitten would not undertake instruction, it sprang

like a cork from a bottle and after a second was found at the

top of the gnarled apple tree. This white skeleton provided

protection from the crazed dog. It growled underneath and

gnashed its teeth. Meanwhile the personages entered the

underworld. Here everything looked gloomy. Frozen

shadows walked, smelly ghosts fluttered and grisly

skeletons danced, squeaking.

“Eh, listen, friend, where’s the sea locked up?” asked the

Sunset, already accustomed to these personages having

elapsed with the Sun. Terrible laughter rumbled out:

“Ha, fools, it’s there – everywhere! You have to find it! And

you’re already branded!” the ghost vanished. The

personages understood no part of the answer, it seemed

such a riddle. And they didn’t know what to do.

And a skeleton in the uniform of a soldier revealed itself to

them. Gazed long, then suddenly, bones rattling, threw

itself at the prince, and greenish extremities embraced him.

“My love! At last you’re here!”
