T he big news, of course, is the official
announcement that 25, Adele’s eagerly-
awaited follow-up to bestselling 21, will be
on the shelves on November 20; we haven't had a
chance to listen to it yet, but there is no doubt that
this will be one of the biggest sellers of the year
(and maybe even next).
However, Adele won't have it all her own way:
pop fans are really spoilt for choice this Christmas,
with a swag of new records due from some of
the biggest names i the business. We’ve already
seen the release of the new albums from the
likes of Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez, plus the
sophomore set from those teen idols from across
the Tasman, 5 Seconds Of Summer.
But next month
the battle for planet
pop heats up with
Justin Bieber going
head to head with
all-conquering
boy band One
Direction. The new
album from Bieber
– recently in town
whipping up a fan
frenzy – is entitled
Purpose and include the hits singles What Do
You Mean , Where R U Now and the just-released
Sorry, which was produced by Skrillex and Blood.
Meanwhile, Made In The A.M, One Direction’s
follow-up to the global mega-seller Four, is
expected out on the same day and will be their first
without member Zayn Malik, who left the group
in March. Make the most of it; the boy band are
reportedly going on extended hiatus next year.
The battle of teen idols is sure to drum up
loads of media coverage, but don’t let that distract
you from another ace pop release in November,
Delirium, the latest album from English dance-pop
superstar Ellie Goulding. It includes the chart-topper
Love Me Like You Do and features collaborations
with the likes of Max Martin, Greg Kurstin, ne
Republic’s Ryan Tedder, and Disclosure’s Guy
Lawrence.
All in all, it’s shaping up to be a poptastic
Summer…
