EXQUISITE FRAGRANCES
USING ONLY NATURE’S
INGREDIENTS.
Finally, I tried Butterfly 3, a soft
floral fragrance which is fresher and
younger. The top notes of Basil and
Violet give a playful spicy edge
that makes this perfume great for
day or evening wear and suits all
seasons.
It was a pleasure to try all
three fragrances at Arabian Oud
and I really enjoyed the experience.
The oil base adds a feeling of
balance, and allows the mixture
of varied ingredients to give
an overall harmonious result. I
loved the fact that the perfume
lasted all day, and that you did
not experience any of the harsh
chemical notes you often get
when first spraying an everyday
perfume. The prices are high,
but if you are looking for
something special that will last
for a long time,I would definitely
recommend this store.
Another brand using natural
oils is Malin and Goetz. The New
York based company founded
by Matthew Malin and Andrew
Goetz, specialise in products
that use natural ingredients. I
tried their perfume oil Vetiver,
packaged in a hand labelled bottle that
gives a lovely apothecary feel. Developed
for both men and women, the fragrance
has intensity, but manages to remain light
and subtle at the same time. It is probably
not one for the girly girls, but it is definitely
worth trying if you are
looking for something
new and unique. This is
also a little lighter than
the Oud perfumes, so
it is good if you want to
mix it with another oil or
fragrance.
Petitgrain Tonic is
another natural product
from Malin and Goetz.
The ‘paired performance’
fragrance can either be
used for balance with
their
Synthesized
Geranium
Leaf
or on its own.
Petitgrain is an
essential
oil
extracted from
the bitter orange
plant, so this
fragrance has a
lovely fruitiness,
but
with

edge. It’s really
nice and light to
wear on its own,
or great to try
with an existing
perfume to make
a
new unique fragrance.
Relatively new to the mainstream
beauty market is Argan oil.
Originating exclusively from
Argan trees in Morocco, this
oil can be used for both skin
and hair. In Morocco, the oil
has been used traditionally to
solve skin problems such as
acne and eczema and is also used
in remedies for rheumatism and
topical skin burns. It has now
been discovered by many
of the world’s leading hair
and skincare companies
and is being used as the key
ingredient in their products.
One of the first companies
to start using Argan oil was
Moroccanoil. They offer
a range of hair and skin
products, but are mostly well
known for their best selling hair oil.
I tried Moroccanoil Light. The ‘light’
refers to hair colour rather the product
itself, as this is specifically made for blonde
or fair hair (the product is also available for
darker hair). You can use the oil in a number
of different ways; before drying on wet hair
to condition, or after drying to finish. I
applied a small amount of oil before drying
and noticed a real difference immediately.
My hair had a much smoother healthier
look and I had none of the usual flyaway
dry ends! This product may seem quite
expensive for a hair treatment, but it’s a
worthy investment. Being quite versatile,
you only need to apply really small amount
each time you use it. I tried applying the oil
before a bikram yoga session, and noticed
my hair was a lot less dry afterwards. It
would be a great product to take on
holiday, or use afterwards if your hair
has been exposed to a lot of sun. I was
concerned about using oil on my hair at
first as it is quite fine, but unlike a lot of
other products, this did not make my hair
lank and greasy a day after washing. A
definite thumbs up!
